FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GREATER HALIFAX PARTNERSHIP BECOMES FIRST CANADIAN ACCREDITED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION

HALIFAX, NS - June 20, 2011 —The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) is pleased to announce that the Greater Halifax Partnership is the first economic development organization in Canada to be certified as an Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO).

The Partnership is only the second economic development organization to be accredited outside of the United States and joins 28 other organizations that have received the AEDO certification.

“The Partnership displays excellence in the field of economic development, professionalism, commitment and technical expertise that is deserving of this honour.” said IEDC President and CEO, Jeff Finkle.  He added, “Earning the AEDO accreditation tells the community and prospects that the Greater Halifax Partnership has attained a measure of excellence assuring that their trust is well-placed and their business is in good hands.”

The AEDO program is a comprehensive peer review process that measures economic development organizations against commonly held standards in the profession. The program consists of two phases: documentation review and an onsite visit. Each phase is designed to evaluate information about the structure, organization, funding, programs, and staff of the candidate economic development organization.

“This is an important benchmark for us. Accreditation from the world’s largest economic development association validates we are doing the right things the right way in our community.” said Greater Halifax Partnership, President and CEO, Paul Kent.

Maintenance of the AEDO status is required every three years and is accomplished through documentation submission and/or onsite visits by a team of the AEDO subcommittee.

“We greatly value our relationship with the Partnership as we collectively work to ensure the growth of our business community,” said Valerie Payn, President, Halifax Chamber of Commerce.  She added, “This certification is testament to the good work they do every day.”
