October 13, 2011 - Greater Halifax Partnership Wins Five Economic Development Awards

HALIFAX, NS – October 13, 2011 – Over the past month the Greater Halifax Partnership has received five national and international awards for excellence as an economic development group.

The Partnership received an Excellence in Economic Development Award from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) for Increasing Participation in Social Media in the category of New Media. IEDC is a membership organization dedicated to helping economic development professionals deliver to their local economy.

“We recognize Greater Halifax Partnership for providing successful strategies to promote new standards in economic development in this period of global recovery,” said Dennis Coleman, IEDC chair. “Our awards honour organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in communities. They demonstrate that they are at the forefront of the economic development profession and are using innovative and effective practices that can be replicated in other communities.”

In addition to this international recognition, the Partnership received three national marketing awards from the Economic Development Association of Canada (EDAC) which include:

  • Digital Media – Niche/Specialty Microsite for Being Greater Halifax, the Partnership’s interactive online annual report.
  • Printed Collateral – Informational Suite for Halifax Gateway – Make The Connection for the Halifax Gateway Council. The Halifax Gateway Council is managed by the Greater Halifax Partnership.   
  • Digital Media – Interactive Media for Embedding Social Media. The Partnership’s enhanced social media program helps build confidence in, and awareness of, Greater Halifax in local, national and international markets.

Finally, the organization was named one of the Top 10 Canadian Economic Development Groups for the 4th year in a row by Site Selection Magazine’s yearly Canada Best to Invest report.
